title=\"So Sweet It Is - Tasting Honey from Around the World\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stormysweitzer.com\/recipes\/so-sweet-it-is-tasting-honey-from-around-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\">tasting honey<\/a>. \u00a0In my opinion, honey can be overpowering \u2013 rich, sweet, even palpitation-inducing \u2013 on its own\u00a0and tastes best in combination with more savory ingredients\u2026like tea, or nuts, or meat.<\/p>\n<p>The very different flavors balance and enhance each other.<\/p>\n<p>And, honey is a great binding agent for pulling together tiny ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I love to use honey in seed snacks.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Make Power Snacks<\/h2>\n<p>Power snacks are straightforward. \u00a0No need for fancy equipment or culinary skill; just a bowl, a spoon, and a baking pan.<\/p>\n<p>As for ingredients, you can use any type of nuts, seeds, or dried fruit you like, as well as unsweetened coconut flakes and flax meal.<\/p>\n<p>Honey, the key to pulling it all together, is a real treat when <a title=\"Mark's Daily Apple: Is Honey a Safe(r) Sweetener?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marksdailyapple.com\/is-honey-a-safer-sweetener\/\">eaten in moderation<\/a>. \u00a0So, splurge on your honey to get the highest quality, purest kind that you can\u2026 avoid blends which include processed ingredients, and instead look for honey that is raw, unfiltered, organic, and even wild. \u00a0Cloudy, crystallized, and dark honey are signs that you are on the right track. \u00a0And if you can support your local beekeeper in the process, all the better. \u00a0Local honey may even help with seasonal allergies.<\/p>\n<p>Down below, I\u2019ve included 2 versions of the Power Snack recipe \u2013 one for those of you who want the basic formula so you can use the ingredients you have on hand; the other to show you exactly what I used to make the snacks in these pictures.<\/p>\n<p>The snack ingredients are mixed together with honey and a bit of walnut oil (you could use avocado or olive if you prefer) and then baked at a low temperature. \u00a0In the process, the honey melts. \u00a0When it cools, the honey again transforms, leaving the other ingredients bound in a sweet, crisp glaze.<\/p>\n<p>The snacks will last in an airtight container for a week or two, if you pace your self.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-302 black sesame<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup chopped or slivered raw nuts<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup chopped dried fruit<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsp flax meal<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup honey<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup walnut oil<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.<\/p>\n<p>Place all dried ingredients in a bowl.\u00a0 Stir in honey and oil and mix until well-blended.<\/p>\n<p>Pour mixture onto a lightly-greased baking sheet (or onto parchment paper).\u00a0 Spread out into a single layer.
